Passionate Collector Revives Classic Cars Worldwide
The passion for classic cars is not just a hobby but a way of life for Ibrahim Al Shamsi, who boasts an impressive collection of over 60 rare vintage vehicles. His collection dates back to the 1930s and includes iconic pieces like a 1937 Chevrolet Deluxe. This unique vehicle, which he received as a gift from a Japanese friend, stands out as the jewel of his collection. But how did this passion begin, and what does this special hobby mean to him?
Family Roots and Video Games
Al Shamsi's love for classic cars began in his childhood when his father's unique vehicles filled the family with pride. “I remember how excited my friends were when they saw my dad’s special cars. This inspired me as well,” he recalled. Childhood experiences combined with the 'Gran Turismo' car video game helped to develop his enthusiasm for vehicles.
His collection mainly consists of Japanese and European cars, but American models also find a place in it. Though he has not disclosed the value of the collection, it is clear that each piece carries a unique story.
Connections from Japan to Brazil
Al Shamsi's passion doesn't stop with collecting cars. He has built global connections from Japan to Brazil to find rare vehicles and parts. He has traveled to Japan over 29 times, where he deepened his knowledge of the classic car community and met many people with similar interests. “This hobby is more than just a love for cars; it's about connections and community,” he said.
A trip in 2011 remains particularly memorable for him. It was during this time he traveled to Japan to purchase a 1971 Nissan Skyline GT-R. The deal was interrupted by a devastating earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear crisis. Still, Al Shamsi persisted and succeeded in acquiring the vehicle, now one of the most special pieces in his collection.
Restoration of Classic Cars: Reviving a Piece of History
For Al Shamsi, his passion for classic cars is not just about possession but about restoring them to their original condition. His goal is to have every minor detail match the factory specifications. “Classic cars offer challenges that modern vehicles do not. That's why it's so satisfying to work with them,” he explained.
During restoration, he not only focuses on acquiring original parts but also uses modern technologies when necessary. For him, every car represents a piece of history that is revived and brought back to life.
Building an Automotive Community: The RAK Cars Café
In the future, Al Shamsi wants to further strengthen the community of car enthusiasts. Through the RAK Cars Café project, he plans to hold weekly meetings where collectors can showcase their cars, share knowledge and resources. He drew inspiration from similar initiatives in Dubai. “These gatherings are not just about showcasing cars. The goal is to build community and keep the passion alive,” he added.
The Power of Passion
Ibrahim Al Shamsi's story is an inspiring example of how a childhood passion can become a lifelong commitment. His collection speaks not only of his love for cars but also of the power of global connections and community building. For Al Shamsi, classic cars are not just vehicles but symbols of timeless values and human connections.
