New Bridge Slashes Travel Time by 67%

Dubai's transportation network continues to evolve: the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new bridge that significantly eases commuting between Jumeirah Street and Al Mina Street towards the Infinity Bridge. This development is part of a comprehensive transportation enhancement program affecting one of the city's busiest corridors – the Al Shindagha Corridor project.
Faster Crossing, Less Congestion
The newly opened, two-lane, 985-meter-long bridge can accommodate up to 3,200 vehicles per hour. The goal is clear: to eliminate the need to stop at traffic lights and provide uninterrupted traffic flow for those coming from Jumeirah Street all the way to the Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street. As a result of the new infrastructure, travel time in this section reduces from 12 minutes to 4 minutes – a 67% improvement.
Al Shindagha Corridor Enhancement – Phase 4
This new bridge is part of the fourth phase of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which covers a total road stretch of 4.8 kilometers from the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street all the way to the Falcon junction on Al Mina Street.
The fourth phase does not consist of a single bridge: a total of six new bridges are being built, with a combined length of 3.1 kilometers. These are designed to accommodate up to 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes, significantly easing the area's traffic burden.
Consideration for Pedestrians
The project also includes the construction of two pedestrian bridges – one on Sheikh Rashid Road and the other on Al Mina Street. These are particularly important for safe pedestrian traffic because the affected stretches are densely trafficked, and pedestrians previously had limited safe crossing options.
Next Milestone: Second Quarter of 2025
The project's next major milestone is a new 780-meter-long, three-lane bridge that will connect the Infinity Bridge with Al Wasl Street, also via Al Mina Street. The new bridge is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025 and will be capable of accommodating 4,800 vehicles per hour. This will further enhance traffic efficiency and fluidity in the area.
Why Does It Matter?
Dubai's continuously expanding road infrastructure not only optimizes the city's transportation but also contributes directly to its economic development and quality of life. Reduced travel times, improved traffic safety, and increased traffic capacity are all factors that help make the city more livable for both its residents and visitors.
Summary
The newly inaugurated bridge is significant not only from an engineering perspective but also as an important milestone in transportation policy. The progress of the Al Shindagha project indicates that Dubai is committed in the long term to developing an efficient, intelligent, and sustainable transportation network.
