Mexican Artifacts Shine at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Louvre has received five artworks on loan from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History. These unique artifacts, including a ritual mask from Calakmul, will be on display until at least April 2025. This marks the first time these valuable pieces from the Mayan civilization have been exhibited in the region. The artworks include a colossal Olmec head, a 'theatrical' type incense burner, a stone mask depicting a human face, a Mayan ritual mask, and a carved column from Chichen Itza, showcasing a range of Mexican historical art from different epochs. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, established in 2017 as the first world-class museum in the Arab world, has become a hub of global human creativity, nurturing cultural connections through influential international partnerships and loan agreements to exhibit artworks worldwide.
