Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, stated that the implementation of the new system aims primarily to reduce traffic rule violations. The smart cameras have already recorded numerous serious incidents where drivers were found driving with distracted attention. In one case, a driver was caught using two mobile phones, and in another, a driver was reading a newspaper at the wheel, completely obstructing the view of the road.
The new camera system is crucial because most drivers tend to believe they can hide behind tinted windows, yet Dubai police's innovative solution can now easily detect these tricks. Given the technological sophistication, the devices can record driver behavior from all angles, documenting every detail of improper driving. As a result, the number of accidents caused by distracted driving can be significantly reduced, leading to increased road safety in the long term.
Dubai authorities emphasize that traffic violations such as mobile phone use or not wearing a seatbelt can be extremely dangerous, not only to the driver but also to others on the road. By introducing the new camera system, the police aim to make it clear that there are no loopholes in the rules — with modern technology, every violation can be documented and penalized.
