Dubai's On-Demand Bus: Lower Fare, Wider Reach
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken another step in developing urban transport: starting from December 20, the fare for the on-demand bus service operating in the Business Bay area has been significantly reduced from Dh5 to Dh2. The aim of this discount is to make transportation smoother in this important business hub, while also making travel more affordable for residents and workers there.
What is the on-demand bus service?
The on-demand bus service is a flexible transportation system that adapts to passenger needs. Passengers can order a bus within designated areas using a mobile application. This system is not only convenient but also contributes to reducing urban traffic as it optimizes trips and reduces the number of vehicles on the roads.
Why was the fare reduced?
According to RTA's statement, the fare reduction was introduced to make the service even more attractive in the Business Bay area. The lower price can encourage people to choose this more sustainable mode of transport instead of their cars. RTA believes this will not only help in reducing traffic but also alleviate parking issues.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development of RTA Transport Agency, said: "The fare reduction of the on-demand bus service facilitates smooth traffic flow and contributes to improving the transport infrastructure of Business Bay, a vital area."
Expanding service areas
According to RTA's ambitious plans, the on-demand bus service will be extended to 10 more areas by the first half of 2025. A fleet of 41 buses will be deployed to efficiently serve the growing demand.
The expansion targets areas where there is high demand for public transport but the inflexible schedule of traditional routes causes many to use their own vehicles. The service aims to offer a more convenient and sustainable alternative.
What does this mean for Dubai?
The fare reduction and expansion of service areas align with Dubai's comprehensive transport strategy, which focuses on sustainable and innovative solutions. Such initiatives not only improve the quality of life for residents but also contribute to Dubai's long-term goal of becoming one of the most livable and modern cities in the world.
The popularity of the on-demand bus system could grow further if RTA introduces additional innovations, such as electric vehicles or AI-based optimization. All this can contribute to making Dubai's transportation not only more efficient but also more environmentally friendly.
How can passengers access the service?
Passengers can access the on-demand bus service through a mobile application developed by Dubai RTA. The application is easy to use, allowing passengers to specify exactly where they want to travel from and to, and the system instantly notifies them of the bus's arrival. The low fare is an additional incentive for residents and tourists to try this convenient option.
Summary
The fare reduction introduced in the Business Bay area is yet another example of how Dubai RTA adapts to transportation needs. Lower prices and service expansion are expected to increase the popularity of the system while promoting the spread of sustainable transport alternatives. As Dubai continues to develop its infrastructure, the on-demand bus service can play a crucial role in the city's transportation future.
