Dubai's Al Wasl Road Revolutionizes Urban Commute

Al Wasl Road Expansion: Dubai's New Transport Project Halves Travel Time
Dubai is launching another large-scale transport development along Al Wasl Road, one of the city's busiest and most strategically important routes. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced an integrated project to develop 15 kilometers of Al Wasl Road, which will drastically reduce travel time while also modernizing the surrounding urban areas.
What Changes Along Al Wasl Road?
The development aims to address the rapid urbanization of Dubai and the increasing transport demands resulting from population growth. As part of the new project, the capacity of Al Wasl Road will reach 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, thanks to the expansion from the current two lanes to a three-lane road.
As part of the project, six major junctions will be developed: the intersections of Al Thanya, Al Manara, Umm Al Sheif, Umm Amara, Al Orouba, and Al Safa. At these points, a total of five different tunnels will be constructed, with a combined length exceeding 3,850 meters. These tunnels play a key role in more efficiently distributing vehicular traffic, thus reducing congestion and travel time.
Highlighted Tunnels and Capacities
The Al Manara Street tunnel will have three lanes and bifurcates in two directions: two lanes will lead from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jumeirah Street, while another two lanes head towards Umm Suqeim Street. This connection has a total capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour.
The Umm Al Sheif Street tunnel will be 750 meters long with two lanes heading from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jumeirah Street. The estimated capacity here is 3,200 vehicles per hour.
At the Umm Amara Street intersection, a new two-lane tunnel (in each direction) will provide a crossing over 700 meters, with a capacity of up to 6,400 vehicles per hour.
More than Just Transport Development
The project is not just about expanding road infrastructure. The RTA is also paying special attention to the safety and convenience of pedestrians and cyclists. Modern walkways, bike paths, aesthetic urban spaces, and green areas are set to be developed. All these significantly enhance the quality of life for residents, helping the Al Wasl area become more than just a transport hub, but a livable, attractive neighborhood.
Strategic Location and Residential Benefits
Numerous luxury hotels, beaches, restaurants, and residential districts along Al Wasl Road serve over a million people. The new project's goal is to make these areas even more accessible while significantly improving traffic safety. The development benefits commuters, tourists, and business travelers alike.
Summary
The development of Dubai's Al Wasl Road exemplifies the city's long-term transport policy that serves faster travel, safety, and the creation of a more livable urban environment. With the implementation of the project, congestion is expected to significantly decrease, transport efficiency will increase, and both residents' and visitors' quality of life will improve.
