Dubai Rain and Hail Slams UAE; Orange Alert Issued
Moderate Rain in Dubai, Hail in Other Emirates Amid Orange Alert
The rainy weather experienced by residents across various parts of the UAE came after the weather service forecasted rainfall until September 30.
On Monday afternoon, Dubai was drenched by moderate rain, while other parts of the United Arab Emirates experienced heavy rain and some hail.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued an orange alert due to the formation of convective clouds associated with the rainfall, with the alert lasting until 9 PM today.
Earlier in the day, rain was reported in some areas of the country, with the weather service predicting that precipitation could also appear in the interior and southern regions.
In a social media post, the weather service issued a warning to residents about the heavy rain experienced in various parts of Ras Al Khaimah. The Wadi in the northern emirate was revitalized as rainwater flowed through the rocky valley of Ghalila.
Today's showers could be accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h. These winds may stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 3,000 meters in the eastern and northern areas of the country.
On Sunday, residents in parts of Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah also experienced rainfall and some drizzle. Meanwhile, small pieces of hail fell along the Al Dhaid road section in Sharjah.
The National Center of Meteorology issued orange and yellow alerts in these northern emirates.
These sporadic rainy weather conditions are expected as the country transitions towards cooler temperatures with the autumnal equinox observed on September 22, marking the end of summer in the emirates.
Safety Warning
The NCM advises residents to venture out only if absolutely necessary. If driving is essential, they recommend heightened attention and caution behind the wheel. In low visibility conditions, using low-beam lights is crucial. Residents are also reminded to follow weather forecasts and be prepared to comply with instructions.
In a post shared on the X platform, the Abu Dhabi municipality also urged residents to adhere to altered speed limits, avoid valleys, keep a first aid kit handy, and prepare alternative light sources, as light and moderate rain showers have also been reported in various parts of the emirate today.
