Dubai Approves $1 Billion Road Expansion

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has approved a Dh3.7 billion budget for an internal road network development plan covering the next five years. The project involves the construction of a 634 km road network, aimed at carrying out 21 separate developments across 12 residential, commercial, and industrial areas, thereby enhancing connectivity and accessibility in Dubai's rapidly growing neighborhoods.

Project Details and Locations

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the project's timeline unfolds as follows:

2025: This year will see the construction of internal roads in Nad El Sheba 3 and Al Amardi areas, primarily serving the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE) project. This development will provide 482 residential units, in addition to new roads being built in the Hatta area, where another 100 residential units will be developed.

2026: The RTA plans to construct a 92 km internal road section in the areas of Nadd Hessa and Al Awir 1. These roads will aid in facilitating transportation, contributing to the development of residential zones and easing commuting and daily life.

2027: In this year, a 45 km road network will be built in Al Athbah, Mushrif, and Hatta areas, while an additional 14 km of roads will be constructed in the Warsan 3 industrial area, aiding the development of industrial zone infrastructure.

2028: One of the largest projects will be realized with a 284 km internal road network spanning Al Awir 1, Wadi Al Amardi, and Hind 3 areas. This year will see the construction of 221 km of roads in Al Awir 1, 22 km in Wadi Al Amardi, and 41 km in Hind 3.

2029: In the final year of the project, an additional 200 km of internal roads will be built in Hind 4 and Al Yalayis 5 areas. Hind 4 will see 39 km, while Al Yalayis 5 will have 161 km of roads constructed, significantly improving transportation options.

Why Is Internal Road Network Development Important for Dubai?

Dubai's rapid growth makes infrastructural investments a necessity, particularly internal road network development, which facilitates accessibility across different city districts and the expansion of residential areas. The new internal roads will benefit not just the population but also industrial and commercial areas, contributing to the city's economic growth.

The project's goal is to ease transportation in densely populated and developing areas, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance connectivity between various parts of Dubai. The expansion of infrastructure provided by the RTA improves the convenience for residents and enhances the quality of life in the city, which continues to attract new residents and investors.

For Dubai, this project offers an opportunity to remain one of the fastest-growing cities, strengthening its world-class infrastructure and making it more attractive for future developments and residential demands. The five-year project contributes to maintaining Dubai's global role and sustainable development.
